Bots arrive on marquinsmith.com

On this blog I self host Umami analytics to help me keep an eye on how many visitors come and which pages and types of content are most popular.

I chose Umami because its privacy respecting (with no cookies) and self hosted so I have ultimate control of the data that is collected.

When I was checking on October’s performance I noticed a huge spike in traffic compared with the previous trend.

On closer inspection, this traffic surge originates from Singapore. Interestingly the traffic looks like it is most interested in the images I have hosted on the blog (outside of the homepage).

Since there is nothing I have done that would explain a traffic spike in Singapore and the strange browsing behaviour I’m putting this down to our old friend… bots.
